Disabled man assaulted at Brookings store

Brookings police arrest a man for assaulting a disabled individual in Wal-Mart.

Police Sergeant Joel Perry says it was reported at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Police arrested 37-year-old Ronald Roberts for assaulting a 65-year-old Flandreau man. The man was taken to the hospital for unknown injuries. Police aren’t sure what led to the assault.

Roberts has been charged with abuse or neglect of a disabled adult. That’s a Class 6 felony, punishable by up a maximum two-years in prison and a $4000 fine.

Perry says police are looking for additional witnesses to the event. If you saw the assault, please contact police.
