Brookings police investigating vehicle and residential burglaries

Brookings Police are investigating a number of residential and vehicle burglaries.

Over the last two weeks, it includes some 15 thefts from motor vehicles. Two structure burglaries were reported over the weekend.

Police Detective Adam Smith says officers were dispatched to the area of Freedom Street Friday night for a report of a possible Peeping Tom. It was later found that a window had been broken out of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a nearby residence. Sometime between 03:30 and 06:30 am, the suspects entered a garage in the area, which was believed to be unlocked. They stole a purse, keys, and garage door openers. The suspects also entered a different residence in the area and stole a 75″ TV and a purse.

Most of the automobile thefts involved vehicles that were unlocked. However, Smith says they also have reports of windows being broken out of two motor vehicles.

The incidents have occurred in different areas of Brookings but seem to be happening more in the southern part of town.

The Brookings Police Department reminds people to lock their residences and vehicles and remove valuables from vehicles.
