Seven additional COVID-19 cases reported in Brookings County today. The total is now at 46 with 17 of them active. The County is in the “substantial” community spread category. The number of “ever hospitalized” increased to three. There have been 1361 negative tests conducted in the county.
In response to a question about any possible hot spots or outbreaks in Brookings County, Department of Health Communications Director Derrick Haskins said, “I don’t have specific information for you regarding the recently reported cases. Brookings County is experiencing substantial community spread.” He says they provide information regarding clusters when there are 40 or more cases identified in a single workplace or setting. In addition, The Department of Health will issue a public health notice when an employee or patron of a business is unable to identify persons they were in close contact with while able to transmit the virus.
Statewide, active cases dropped Thursday by 19 to 810.
Total positive cases increased by 59 to 6109. The number of people who have recovered is 5221 and current hospitalizations are 93. There have been 64,244 negative tests reported in South Dakota.
