“Back the Blue” event set for Saturday in Brookings

A “Back the Blue” parade and rally is set for tomorrow in Brookings.

The event, hosted and organized by the Brookings Police Department Foundation, is intended to encourage and honor law enforcement officers.

Residents can participate in the event by lining up vehicles at the Brookings East Fire Station by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow or lining 6th Street to watch, hanging flags, or by creating signs. The parade will begin at 9:30.

The procession will start at the fire station and travel west down 6th Street to 3rd Street, and conclude at the Brookings Police Department where Brookings Mayor Keith Corbett will read a proclamation.

Mayor Corbett says police officers provide invaluable services to the community. He says, “we are fortunate to live in a community with a dedicated and professional police department, that is always prepared to keep Brookings safe.”

The City of Brookings would like to remind attendees that the event is a City permitted event, and those who line the Street will be required to adhere to the mask mandate.
