Brookings County Sheriff’s Department reports recent fires

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department reports a couple of recent fires.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says a vehicle fire was reported shortly before 6:00 Friday morning at Highway 81 and 203rd Street. The Arlington Fire Department and Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

The 2004 Chevy Trailblazer was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished but the vehicle was a complete loss. The fire is believed to have started in the engine compartment. An unknown subject was seen walking north from the scene prior to units arriving. The owner of the vehicle has not yet been located.

The second fire was reported shortly before 5:00 pm Sunday at Caspian Avenue and Highway 14 in Volga.

The shed fire was extinguished by the Volga Fire Department.

Sebring says a tractor was parked next to the shed with a battery charger plugged into an outlet inside the building. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical issue.

The Tractor received front end damage. Two ATV’s, several engines, tractor tires, and miscellaneous other items were destroyed in the fire. A damage estimate is not available.
