Brookings man arrested twice Friday afternoon for DUI

A Brookings man was arrested twice on the same day for driving under the influence.

Detective Adam Smith says it happened Friday afternoon and started with a traffic complaint called in at about 12:40 p.m. on the 700 block of 17th Avenue. Police responded, found the vehicle speeding and pulled it over in the Hy-Vee lot.

The 46-year-old Brookings man, who was working for a food delivery service at the time, was cited for speeding, obstructed plates and open container and arrested for driving under the influence. The man was taken to jail and later bonded out.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m., the man was spotted by police retrieving his vehicle from the impound lot.

He was stopped, again in the Hy-Vee parking lot, and arrested once again for DUI. Smith says he was still above the legal limit for driving.
