Brookings police are investigating a window peeking incident and theft that may be connected.

Police Lt. Marci Gebers says it was reported at about 11:37 Thursday night on the 700 block of 14th Avenue. A man was seen looking through the window of a residence by a neighbor. The neighbor contacted the homeowner and police were notified.

When officers arrived in the area, they saw a man matching the perpetrator’s description but he fled and could not be located. The suspect was described as wearing a dark hoodie.

About 90-minutes later, police were called back to the scene, The homeowners had discovered a small amount of cash was missing. They had been gone for a short time earlier in the day and had left the door unlocked. There was no sign of forced entry.

Gebers says the incidents may be related and their investigation continues. She says it’s a good reminder to always lock your doors when you’re not home and to look out for you neighbors.
