Brookings police warn of counterfeit bill phone calls
Brookings police are warning local businesses of possible calls about counterfeit money.
No one from the Brookings Police Department is calling local businesses about counterfeit bills .
An employee at a local business reported such a call Friday evening. The caller claimed to be a law enforcement agent who was conducting an investigation into counterfeit bills. The employee quickly became suspicious when the caller asked the how many bills they had in their register and how many employees were working.
Any business in town that receives a similar call is advised to not provide any information and to contact the police department.
