Brookings woman arrested after allegedly stabbing a man in the leg

A Brookings woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly stabbing a man in the leg.

Police Detective Adam Smith says 27-year-old Belshiba Bowah was arrested for Aggravated Assault Domestic with a deadly weapon.

Police responded to a residence in the 2300 block of 10th Street shortly before 9:00 pm and learned the victim, a Brookings man, had left the scene and drove himself to the emergency room.

Bowah says the man had made unwanted sexual advances toward her. Bowah initially struck the man with her knee, then sprayed him with pepper spray. Smith says Bowah then grabbed a nearby object and began striking him.  He tried to wrestle the object away and Bowah was able to grab a knife and stab the man in the leg.

The man’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Bowah had minor injuries.

At the conclusion of the investigation, she was arrested and taken to the Brookings County Jail. Bowah is currently being held on a $2,500 cash bond.

The man was not charged.
