Brookings woman arrested after witnesses say she threatened others with a knife

A Brookings woman is arrested for allegedly threatening others with a knife.
Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says the woman called police at about 9:30 Sunday morning, claiming there was someone threatening others with a gun on the 1000 block of Western Avenue.
Police responded, interviewed several people and learned there had been a confrontation involving a number of people. The woman who called police had reportedly brandished a knife and threatened to stab people. There was no gun.
The woman, 30-year-old Jasmine Diaz, was arrested for aggravated assault and filing a false report. When she was taken to jail, she reportedly threatened an officer. Diaz was also charged with threatening a law enforcement officer.
