Bulldozer extensively damaged in firefighting attempt near Bruce

A large bulldozer is damaged extensively after catching fire in an effort to extinguish an out-of-control burn near Bruce.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says it was reported shortly after 2:30 Wednesday afternoon in a field northwest of Bruce.

Sebring says a controlled burn left its containment and ignited corn stubble which quickly spread. A neighbor tried to contain the fire with a Caterpillar D6R dozer. The D6R dozer caught fire.

The Bruce Fire Department responded and was able to quickly extinguish the original fire and the dozer.

Damage to the bulldozer is estimated at $100,000.
