City of Brookings reminds residents fireworks are illegal in town

A reminder from the City of Brookings:  lighting fireworks within city limits is illegal.

The ordinance defines fireworks as any combustible or explosive composition. That includes common fireworks such as firecrackers, sparklers, bottle rockets and Roman candles.

A public fireworks display will take place Tuesday, July 4, outside the Dacotah Bank Center starting at about 10 p.m.

The fireworks display caps off the annual Uncle Sam Jam, which starts at 6:00 pm at Dacotah Bank Center.

The 40th annual Fourth of July Parade, co-sponsored by Brookings Radio and the Brookings Fire Department, is set for 11:00 am Tuesday. Entrants should line up at 9:30 by the Brookings Police Department on Third Avenue. The parade route is east on Third to Medary to Sixth to Main to Third Street.
