COVID Cases Climbing

Cases of COVID-19 are climbing in South Dakota.

Five COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday in the Department of Health weekly update. The statewide total is 2936. One of the deaths was reported in Brookings County.

Active cases in Brookings County increase by seven to 112. Thirty new cases reported since June 15, the total is 8334. Recovered cases are at 8167. There have been 55 deaths reported in Brookings County. The County is in the “high” community spread category.

Statewide, active cases increase by 234 to 2780. Total cases increase by 971 in the last week to 243,298. There are 237,553 recovered cases. Current hospitalizations increase by 13 to 65.

Seventy-three percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Sixty percent have completed a vaccine series and 33-percent have received a booster.
