Crow Creek Tribe votes to ban Gov. Noem

Another tribe voted this week to ban Governor Kristi Noem from their reservation.

The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe officially barred the governor on Tuesday.

Peter Lengkeek, president of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe, described frustration over Noem’s recent public offer of training and collaboration with tribal law enforcement. Although the tribe has an arrangement with the South Dakota Highway Patrol to assist during the annual pow-wow, Lengkeek requested that the Governor extend the agreement to work with the Highway Patrol on an as-needed basis. Lengkeek said their tribe has yet to receive a response.

This marks the sixth tribe in South Dakota to ban Gov. Noem from entering their land. In addition, a committee of the Yankton Sioux Tribe has also recommended a ban but the tribal council has not acted.
