Dedication of Henry Kayongo-Male Memorial bench at Hillcrest tennis courts
September 6 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Tennis club to dedicate accessible seating at Hillcrest Courts
Hillcrest Tennis Courts now have accessible seating, thanks to donations by club members and matching
funds from the U.S. Tennis Association Northern Section. The seating will be dedicated in memory of
the South Dakota State University professor Henry Kayongo-Male, a long-time Brookings tennis player,
at the club’s end-of-the season celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
Those who wish to play tennis should come at 5 p.m. with the dedication beginning at 6 p.m. Supper will
begin at 6:30 p.m. with the club providing pork loin sandwiches, sweet corn and beans. Those attending
are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share. Plates, utensils and napkins will be furnished.
“Henry would be proud,” said Joe Schumacher, who spearheaded the fundraising for his long-time
friend and tennis partner, Kayongo-Male. “I would like to thank all the people who donated to make this
possible, the USTA Northern Section for its financial support of Brookings Tennis and the Brookings
Parks and Rec Department for installing the memorial bench.” Now all people will be able to
comfortably watch matches at Hillcrest Courts.
