FEMA extends disaster registration deadline to January 31
The deadline to register with FEMA for disaster assistance after the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from Sept. 9-26 has been extended to January 31, 2020.
Federal disaster assistance for individuals and families can include money for rental assistance, essential home repairs, clean up expense, personal property loss and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.
Disaster Recovery Centers in these locations will close on Friday, January 17, 2020:
• Hanson County Courthouse, 720 5th Street, Alexandria, SD
• Davison County Fairgrounds, 3200 W. Havens Avenue, Mitchell, SD
• Lake County, 455 S. Highland Avenue, Madison, SD
This location will close on Saturday, January 18, 2020:
•Aurora County Courthouse, 401 N. Main Street, Plankinton, SD
The flooding in Brookings County in September is included in this disaster declaration.
After the centers close, homeowners and renters with disaster-related damage in designated counties can still register with FEMA, or get other help, by visiting us online at DisasterAssistance.gov or calling the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362 or TTY: 800-462-7585. Lines are open daily from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Help is available in most languages.
