A fire at the middle school in Pierre Wednesday was intentionally set. That according to a preliminary investigation.
The fire was set shortly before 11:00 a.m. in a second-floor boys bathroom at Georgia Morse Middle
Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says the department’s Middle School resource officer was able to put the fire out with an extinguisher. He says there was a lot of smoke on the second floor.
Walz says the Pierre Fire Department worked to eliminate the smoke from the building and assisted with the evacuation.
The school was closed for the remainder of the day and students were released to their parents.
The investigation continues.
