Five COVID-19 deaths reported in SD Wednesday as active cases drop significantly

Five COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday in the Department of Health weekly update — The statewide total is now 2984.

Active cases in Brookings County decrease by 113 to 32. Forty-eight new cases were reported since August 17th, the total is 8,735. Recovered cases are at 8,645. There have been 58 deaths reported in Brookings County. The County is in the “high” community spread category.

Statewide, a big drop in active cases — down by 3096 to 1114. Total cases increase by 1,585 in the last week to 254,670. There are 252,157 recovered cases. Current hospitalizations increase by 11 to 105.

Seventy-five percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Sixty-one percent have completed a vaccine series and 34-percent have received a booster.
