A Flood Warning for snow melt remains in effect for Six Mile Creek near Brookings. A flood warning for the Big Sioux River near Brookings is in effect until Friday morning.

Minor flooding is occurring. For Six Mile Creek, township roads northeast of Brookings are expected to flood.

The Big Sioux River is expected to crest Tuesday. According to Brookings County Emergency Manager Bob Hill, at 9.0 feet, significant amounts of pasture and farm lands begin flooding on the left bank of the river. The road south of the Brookings water treatment plant floods as does 217th Street between 468th and 469th Avenues.

Hill says the Big Sioux is expected to rise above flood stage Monday afternoon with a crest of 9.3 feet early Tuesday morning. It is then expected to fall below flood stage Tuesday evening.

Do not drive through flooded areas of roadways as the surface could be washed out and it may be deeper than you expect.
