Groundbreaking in Brookings for new wind power facility

Company officials from Peska Construction of Sioux Falls and Avangrid Renewables of Portland, Oregon, broke ground Tuesday on a 30,000 square foot facility in the Brookings industrial park east of the interstate.

The new building will be used as a warehouse for spare parts in support of Avangrid Renewables’ fleet of wind and solar assets. They’re headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and they have wind and solar operations in more than 20 states.

Peska Construction of Sioux Falls is the owner/developer of the new facility.

Ira Reiland is Manager of Logistics and Inventory Planning for Avangrid Renewables. He says the firm has been operating wind energy projects in the Brookings area for over 15 years.  Reiland says they identified Brookings as the best location among six site options in a four state area.

The Brookings location will serve as their Midwestern service and distribution hub.
