Groundbreaking in Lake Preston for billion-dollar biofuels plant

Groundbreaking was held in Lake Preston Thursday for what’s being billed as the largest economic investment in South Dakota.

Gevo is building a world-class sustainable fuel production facility.

Their facility will create 1,000 jobs during construction and 90 long-term, high-paying jobs. The new facility is the first billion-dollar plus project in the history of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.

The facility will use regionally grown corn as its feedstock, which will be turned into gas, jet fuel and diesel fuel. As part of their sustainability efforts, the plant will use solar and wind power.

Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden took part in yesterday’s groundbreaking…

Gevo will also be supporting two Build Dakota Scholarships for students at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown.

Gevo is based in Colorado and also has facilities in Luverne, MN, Iowa and Texas.
