Hobo Day arrests down this year

Hobo Day arrests booked into the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office were down significantly this year.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring reports that there were 27 arrests from Thursday at 6:00pm through Noon Sunday.

That’s down from the 43 people who were arrested and booked into the Brookings County Jail last year and the 36 arrests made in 2021.

One of the big differences was in DUI arrests which dropped from 27 last year to 10 this year. Misdemeanor drug arrests dropped from 18 to seven. Felony drug charges increased by four to a total of eight.

Brookings Police Detective Adam Smith says no major incidents were reported over the weekend.
