I-29 Bridge Construction – Update

Construction on the 20th Street interchange bridge on I-29 near Brookings moves into phase two this Tuesday, July 5th.

The State Department of Transportation says two-way traffic through the I-29 construction zone will be adjusted to the northbound lanes from two miles north of Exit 127 to just south of Exit 132. Currently, two-way traffic uses the southbound lanes through the area.

A speed limit of 65 mph will be in effect through the two-way traffic area, with 45 mph zones in areas under active construction.

Drivers are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic as well as the need for reduced speed in active work zones in order to safely accommodate both construction workers and other motorists.

Construction of the bridge and grading operations are scheduled to be complete this year — surfacing and final project completion is currently scheduled for July 14 of 2023.
