It is Election Day in South Dakota and across the nation

Today is Election Day in South Dakota and across the nation.

Locally, there are races for Brookings County Sheriff, County Commissioner, Circuit Court Judge and District 7 State Representative. There are no contested legislative races in District 8.

Statewide races are highlighted by the contest for governor between incumbent Kristi Noem and challenger Jamie Smith as well as ballot measures on Medicaid expansion and recreational marijuana. There are also statewide races for Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer, Commissioner of School and Public lands and PUC Commissioner.

South Dakotans will also vote for U.S. Senator and Representative.

Early voting is strong in Brookings County with nearly 4500 votes already cast as of midday Monday.

In Brookings County, you may vote at any one of the eight polling places. In Brookings they’re located at the Activity Center, Bethel Bapritst Church and Holy Life Tabernacle. The other locations are the Aurora Little Hall, the Community Centers in Bruce, Elkton and Volga and McKnight Hall in White.

Polls are open until 7:00 pm locally. Votes will be counted starting at 8:00 pm.
