Man arrested in Spearfish bank robbery

A Sturgis man has been arrested for a Monday afternoon bank robbery in Spearfish.

Police were called to Great Western Bank on Main Street in Spearfish at about 1:30. A man had entered the establishment and presented a teller with a threatening note demanding money.
The teller complied, and the man left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Based upon information from bank employees, witnesses and video evidence, a vehicle believed to be related to the robbery was identified. The suspect vehicle was located in Deadwood later that afternoon.

An investigation led to the seizure of evidence related to the robbery and the arrest of 31-year-old Deric Dufek of Sturgis.

He’s in custody on charges of Robbery and Grand Theft. Federal charges are also possible.
