A 52-year-old man died Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash east of Alexandria.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, an SUV was eastbound on Interstate 90 when the driver lost control on the icy roadway. The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled several times.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was taken to a Mitchell hospital where he later died.

A 51-year-old female passenger was not injured. She was wearing a seatbelt.

Names of the two people involved have not yet been released pending notification of family.
