Man who fled after failing to register as a sex offender is caught in Brookings

Police arrest a man who has been wanted for over a year for absconding from the Brookings County sex offender registry.
Brookings Police Sergeant Joel Perry says police received a tip that 43-year-old Joseph Paul Caiola was back in Brookings. He was arrested Monday night.
Caiola is facing two felony charges: Failure to register as a sex offender from May of 2021 and failure to appear for a court date.
Caiola is required to register because of a 1993 conviction in Washington state for molesting an 8-year-old girl.
