Name released in fatal Stanley Co. head on crash

A Dupree, South Dakota man has been identified as the person who died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Friday, April 12, just west of Fort Pierre.

The Highway Patrol says a pickup driven by 81-year-old Lawrence Woodward was on US Highway 14 and crossed over into the oncoming lane. The driver of an approaching pickup was in the oncoming lane and tried to swerve to avoid Woodward’s pickup but was unable to do so, resulting in a head on collision.

Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported by ambulance to the Pierre hospital.

Woodward died Saturday, April 27 as the result of his injuries.

The woman driving the other pickup sustained serious, non life threatening injuries.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.
