Nearly 69% of South Dakota is in severe drought or worse

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows all of Brookings County in the “severe drought” category.

Nearly 69-percent of the state is currently in severe drought or worse.

Areas in south central South Dakota saw a slight improvement in conditions to move out of the extreme drought category. Gregory and Charles Mix Counties moved from extreme to severe drought.

The area of severe drought is up slightly in the past week.
