The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Day County.

Tim Bormann of the Attorney General’s office says the shooting occurred Tuesday near Webster. He says Day County authorities responded to a call for a welfare check on a distressed male. He says it led to a pursuit and an exchange of gunfire. Bormann says the male was hit by gunfire, was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Bormann says no law enforcement officers were injured.

He would not identify the individual shot nor the officers involved.

Bormann says the Attorney General’s Office will review the investigation and determine if the shooting was justifiable.
