Ope Niemeyer running for Brookings Mayor, Keith Corbett not seeking reelection

The 1st candidate has filed for the 2021 Brookings City Election.

Current City Council Member Ope Niemeyer has filed for Mayor. Niemeyer won reelection to the council last year.

Current Mayor Keith Corbett says he is not seeking reelection. Corbett says, after 11-years combined as councilman and mayor, he decided to step down.

The seats currently held by Council Members Patty Bacon and Nick Wendell are also up this year.

On the school side, the seats currently held by board members Debra DeBates and Roger DeGroot are up this year.

Nominating petitions and candidate packets are available at the City Clerk’s Office for this year’s City Election and petitions are available at the school district business office for the School Board Election.

This year’s City and School Election is set for April 13. Nominating petitions must be filed by Friday, February 26 by 5:00 p.m.
