SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Authorities say police have shot a suspect in Sioux Falls after he ran from officers and showed a weapon.

The suspect is hospitalized. There’s no immediate word on his condition.

Police Capt. Loren McManus says officers were called to a residence about 9:30 p.m. Sunday and learned a suspect in that call left the home and might be armed. McManus didn’t say why police were called to the residence.

Police say the man was found a short time later near his residence and ran from officers. McManus the suspect showed a weapon and at least one officer fired, striking the man. The South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation will handle the case, per protocol.
