Relatively quiet Hobo Day weekend for law enforcement

A relatively quiet Hobo Day weekend from law enforcement’s perspective. No major incidents were reported.

According to the report from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Department, nearly all the numbers were down from last year, when there wasn’t a true Hobo Day. The only area that saw an increase was the number of DUI’s which were at 22 compared to 14 in 2020.

Misdemeanor drug charges fell from 18 to 17 while felony drug arrests dropped from 10 to five.

Three people were charged with assault, compared to six last year.

Underage possession charges dropped from 31 to 19.

Overall, there were 36 arrests compared to 46 in 2020.
