Rural Sinai man killed in firearm accident
A rural Sinai man is killed in a firearm accident after target shooting.
According to Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring, 44-year-old Steven Hanson had been target shooting with a pistol. Walking back from the target, Hanson needed to cross a cattle panel fence. While he was doing so, the pistol fired once, striking Hanson.
Crews arrived at the scene and attempted life saving measures but were not successful.
It happened sometime between Noon and 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on 217th Street near 457th Avenue.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol, Sinai Fire Department, Volga Fire Department and Brookings Ambulance also responded.
