Separate fire and burglary reported Saturday in Brookings County

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and Brooking Fire Department responded to an electric box and grass fire west of Lake Campbell. Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says it was reported shortly before 4:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon at 219th Street and 466th Avenue. Area residents were able to extinguish the flames before emergency responders arrived at the scene. The electric box was destroyed. The estimated loss is $3,000. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a residential burglary west of Oakwood Lakes State Park. It happened between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm Saturday. Sebring says it appears the suspect entered the residence through an unlocked door and began rummaging through the home. A .22 caliber revolver and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen.
