Volga fire department called to hay bale fire

The Volga Fire Department and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responds to a Monday morning hay bale fire southeast of Volga.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says they were called because smoke was coming from hay bales in a field on 212th Street near 466th Avenue.

Crews discovered that about 15 bales in a line were on fire. They were able to quickly move the bales and extinguish them before more caught fire.

The cause is not known. The loss is estimated at $2,200.
