Six injured in Saturday afternoon collision south of Brookings

Six people are injured in a two-vehicle crash south of Brookings at the s-curve at about 3:10 Saturday afternoon.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, an SUV was traveling northwest on the curve when the driver, 29-year-old Amanda Schumacher of Brookings, crossed the center line and struck a car that was heading southeast.

The 15-year-old driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Brookings hospital with what were believed to be serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Four passengers in the car, two adults and two teens, were also injured. One of the adults and one of the teens were later transported to Sioux Falls hospitals. Those two and the other adult are described as having serious, non-life threatening injuries. The second teen had minor injuries.

Schumacher was transported to Brookings Hospital with minor injuries. The patrol says charges against her are pending.

Everyone was wearing seat belts.

The Highway Patrol is investigating.
