Six vehicles damaged as cattle get loose on Interstate 29 and another roadway

Six vehicles are damaged as cattle get loose on the interstate and another road.

Brookings County Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says it happened about 1:20 Saturday morning a few miles north of the White exit.

About 90 head of cattle had gotten out of a pen and some of them entered the interstate through an open gate. The cattle were standing on the roadway and in the ditch.

Twelve head of cattle were hit. One cow was hit by an SUV on 471st avenue at 200th street.

One of the vehicles damaged is a Brookings Fire Department pickup truck. Other vehicles damaged include another pickup, two cars and a semi truck. Damages top $26,000. The total loss of the cattle is estimated at $11,500.
