There is a second Republican candidate for South Dakota Attorney General and it’s not the current office holder, Jason Ravnsborg.

Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Director David Natvig will seek the office.

Natvig formerly served as the Brule County State’s Attorney before being tabbed by Ravnsborg to serve as DCI Director in 2018.

Natvig says his plan is to “take the success and hard work of the office of Attorney General and build on it.” The announcement came via video on the “Natvig for Attorney General” Facebook page.

Ravnsborg, recently impeached by the South Dakota State House, says he is still weighing his options. He faces a Senate impeachment trial next month and has not said if he’ll seek reelection.

Former Attorney General Marty Jackley is also running for the seat. A candidate will be selected at the South Dakota Republican convention in Watertown in June.
