South Dakota House votes to cut sales tax

The South Dakota House overwhelmingly passes the largest tax cut in the state’s history.

Passage of HB 1137 would reduce the state sales and use tax from 4.5% to 4.2%. Supporters say it would be a $104 million tax cut.

Bill sponsor, Republican Chris Karr of Sioux Falls…

Democratic Representative Linda Duba of Sioux Falls was one of the three ‘no’ votes…

The measure could save South Dakotans an average of $116 per person in sales tax annually.

It passed 66-3 and now goes to the Senate.
