Final vehicle traffic counts from the South Dakota Department of Transportation are in for the 82nd Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

The ten day-total for the rally was 497,835 vehicles. The D-O-T says that’s up 1.1% from the previous five-year average of 492,535 vehicles.

It’s down significantly from the 555-thousand vehicles tallied last year.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, there were three traffic fatalities associated with this year’s rally. There were four last year. The total number of accidents were down as were the number of injury accidents, which went from 62 down to 50.

Driving under the influence arrests were up more than two dozen from last year, from 122 to 148 while total drug arrests were down a bit.

The rally ran August 5-14.
