Suspect sought in Monday morning hit and run at junction of highways 14 and 81

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a pickup involved in a Monday morning hit and run accident at the Highway 14/Highway 81 junction.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says it happened shortly before 7:00 am. A maroon-colored pickup was in the four-lane section of Highway 14, heading east in the westbound lanes while taking the corner. A westbound semi was passing another westbound vehicle. The semi driver swerved to avoid a head on collision with the pickup which struck the side of the semi trailer near the rear wheels. The pickup went into the median then continued east after regaining control.

Anyone with information about this pickup is asked to contact the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 692-STOP.
