Young woman killed in crash near Yankton

A 19-year-old female died Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash north of Yankton.

Names of the two people involved are not being released pending notification of family.

A car was southbound on U.S. Highway 81 when it crossed the center line and collided with a northbound semi tractor and trailer.

The 19-year-old female driver of the car was taken by ambulance to a Yankton hospital. She was later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.

The 64-year-old male driver of semi sustained minor injuries. He was taken by ambulance to the Yankton hospital. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
