Three people arrested in Brookings after trying to sell stolen item to police

Three people are facing chares in connection to a Volga burglary.

Police Lt. Marci Gebers says the arrests were made in Brookings Thursday afternoon as Brookings Police and South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation assisted the Brookings County Sheriff’s Department.

Gebers says an item believed to have been stolen in the burglary was found for sale on a social media site. Communications were established with the seller and arrangements made to complete the purchase on the 700 block of Main Avenue.

Gebers says three people showed up with the stolen item. They were detained and arrested. Thirty-two-year-old Joshua Hamilton of Brookings, 30-year-old Michael Harrington, Jr. of Brandon and 26-year-old Breanna Miller of Sioux Falls are each charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and ingesting a controlled substance. In addition, Hamilton has an outstanding warrant from Nobles County, Minnesota and Miller has one from Minnehaha County.

Gebers says the three had other stolen items in their possession.
