Two arrested after assaults in Arlington and Volga

A man and a woman are arrested Wednesday morning near Volga following assaults in Arlington and Volga.

Assistant Brookings County Sheriff Scott Sebring says 32-year-old Damien Red Buffalo of Wagner and 25-year-old Jayvon King of Sioux Falls were taken into custody at about 10:15 a.m., about 3 miles northeast of Volga.

Red Buffalo is facing multiple charges in Brookings County including attempted Grand Theft, Simple Assault, Obstructing Law Enforcement and Possession of Stolen Property.

King is charged with Simple Assault, False Impersonation, Possession of Stolen Property and Grand Theft. She also has three felony warrants out of Minnehaha County.

Additional charges for both are pending in Kingsbury County including aggravated assault.

On Tuesday evening at a gas station in Arlington, the two allegedly used a rifle to threaten a victim and steal their vehicle. They drove it to Volga, where they attempted to take another vehicle by punching the owner in the face. That person fought back and the two suspects fled in the vehicle stolen from Arlington.

They drove east on Highway 14 until stopping in the lane of traffic and fleeing on foot.

That led to an extensive search until the two were found and taken into custody.
