The South Dakota Department of Health confirmed today that the ‘Delta’ variant of COVID-19 has been detected in South Dakota. Only one case of the variant has been identified in Edmunds County, it is safe to assume other cases may exist.

Secretary of Health Kim Malsam-Rysdon says they’re closely following this development and would like to reiterate the importance of getting vaccinated.

The ‘Delta’ variant is more easily spread and reduces the effectiveness of existing treatments.

Fifty-seven percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The latest information can be seen at the South Dakota Department of Health website.
