Two more COVID-19 deaths reported Friday; new hot spot reported in Alpena

Two COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Thursday, raising the state’s total to 50. Both were in Minnehaha County.

Active cases dropped by 18 to 1039

Total positive cases increased by 106 to 4356. The number of people who have recovered is 3267 and current hospitalizations are at 83. The “ever hospitalized” category is at 351. A total of 27,988 negative tests have been reported in the state.

Brookings County remains at 14 cases with none of them active. There have been 543 negative tests reported from the county.

There is a hot spot in Beadle County. State Epidemiologist Joshua Clayton says 40 cases are now connected to the Jack Link’s beef jerky plant in Alpena.
