Unemployment benefit job search waiver is ending

The unemployment benefit job search waiver is coming to an end.

The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation had waived the requirement that workers filing for unemployment must actively search for work to be eligible for benefits. That waiver ends on August 1st. Those receiving benefits will be required to verify at least two work searches each week when requesting their weekly benefit payment.

Department Secretary Marcia Hultman says businesses are returning to normal and need quality applicants. She says they have many employment services and education and training programs to help people find new work.

Unemployment claims dropped last week in South Dakota. A total of 698 initial weekly claims for state unemployment benefits were processed. That’s 518 fewer claims than the prior week.
