Watertown man sentenced to 30-years for kidnapping
A Watertown man has been sentenced to 30-years in prison for kidnapping.
Twenty-five-year-old Deven Burgher was sentenced Wednesday in Codington Circuit Court after agreeing to plead guilty to two counts of kidnapping, each involving a different victim. He also admitted being a habitual offender.
The defendant was sentenced to 25-years in prison on each kidnapping count with
10-years suspended on each count. The sentences will be served consecutively.
Prosecutors say the kidnappings occurred in January and May of last year in Codington County. The second kidnapping occurred when Burgher was out on bond for the first incident.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says the two who were kidnapped were the victims of domestic assault and he thanked them for their courage in coming forward.
