Watertown to close grade school because of declining enrollment

Watertown will have one fewer elementary school beginning next fall.

At Monday night’s meeting, the Watertown School Board voted to close Roosevelt Elementary at the end of the current academic year.

The school board has been studying the issue for months, as enrollment levels among elementary age students in the district have declined.

State law requires a school district to notify patrons of a school’s closure by December 1st of the preceeding school year.

The Watertown School District will bring forward a plan in the coming months on where Roosevelt Elementary students will attend school in the future.
